Carnarvon Golf Club began in 1927 when the game was played on an informal basis before being regularised at the first Annual General Meeting in August, 1928. The first President was Alderman W.R. Atkinson of Lidcombe Council and one of the Vice-Presidents was the Hon. J.T. Lang, Premier of New South Wales.The course which measured 4277 yards with a bogey of 75, was situated on the northern side of Parramatta Road and covered the following area : <ul><li>Western Boundary: Wetherill St. </li><li>Northern Boundary: Derby St.</li><li>Eastern Boundary: Haslam’s Creek and Hill Road.</li><li>Southern Boundary: Adderley St. Day St. then Parramatta Road to Hill Road.</li></ul>The area covered by the course included vacant proposed factory sites, unmade roads, an agistment paddock of the State Abbatoirs and portion of Southian’s dairy. The greens were the natural grasses mowed at the weekends by the members’ own push mowers. The holes were jam tins. The course was named after a large sign, visible from Parramatta Road, advertising factory sites for sale on Carnarvon Hill Estate. This sign is regarded as the first clubhouse as members drove nails into it on which to hang their coats and other paraphernalia. The first real clubhouse, known as “the Shack, was erected in 1929 on the corner of Day and Derby Streets and comprised two rooms, one 10 feet by 10 feet for members and the other 8 feet by 8 feet for associates with a 9 feet by 4 feet verandah. In 1931 the old Auburn Ambulance Station was purchased, towed to the site and added to The Shack. As tenure over the original course was tenuous at best a move was made to what became known as the “old course” in late 1932 with the official opening in 1933.The old course was located to the north of Fariola St. and occupied two paddocks owned by Newington State Hospital and a paddock to the south of Holker St. owned by Lidcombe Council. The lease from Newington State Hospital was for fifteen years under permissive occupancy tenure and covered tees and greens only. The greens were enclosed with post and rail fences as protection from our bovine co-tenants of the hospital dairy herd. The clubhouse was moved to the northern side of the eastern end of Fariola St in 1933 when extensive additions and alterations were effected. Things moved along swimmingly for the next ten years or so until the outbreak of World WarII. Our biggest disaster came on 8 March, 1943 when the clubhouse and the top paddock were taken over by the US Navy necessitating yet another move. It was decided to continue with a nine hole course consisting of the bottom paddock for seven holes with the remaining two holes in the council paddock. This became known as the Silverwater course. To accommodate a Clubhouse the committee resolved on 20 April, 1043 to purchase thecottage in Clyde St. Auburn and the adjacent eleven vacant blocks for 470 pounds Following the convention of the time it was necessary to pay 100 pounds “key money” to obtain vacant possession of the property. With renovations the cottage served as a Clubhouse until the move to the present course. The old cottage went through many years of modification, renovation, partial demolition and rebirth as a motor boat club, Auburn Businessman’s Club and is currently Dooley’s On The Water. The move to the present course was foreshadowed as early as 1943. The new course was an amalgamation of two contiguous areas separated by Walters Rd. which originally ran through from Nottinghill Rd to Joseph St. The area between Leila St. and Walters Rd. was the Lidcombe Sports and Showground and the area between Walters Rd and Amy St was the western grazing paddock of Lidcombe State Hospital for its prize winning herd of Holstein dairy cows. The areas were amalgamated, Walters Rd closed and the area leased to Carnarvon Golf Club in 1947. The course was built between the years 1947 to 1949 to a design by Arthur East. The Clubhouse was built over the same period. Due to the difficulty in obtaining building material in the post-war years the Clubhouse was built from material obtained by demolishing the Fariola St building together with the Liverpool and Lidcombe Soldiers’ Halls. The Clubhouse and new course were opened in December, 1949. Additions and renovations kept the building functional until 1998 when the Club came under increasing pressure to bring the structure up to the required standards. The cost involved was considered uneconomic considering the condition of the underpinnings. The Board voted to build a new Clubhouse and then demolish the old building. This was completed in December, 1999. Our present course presented a horticultural challenge to the earlier Committees and course superintendents as they battled with an area of poor clay based soil, gravel patches and rock outcrops. The Committee tendered for and won the contract to remove manure from the holding paddocks at Flemington Saleyards on the site of the present Flemington Markets. The contract ran from 1957 to 1963 and most fairways were covered to a depth of six to eight inches with mostly sheep manure. This was done half a fairway width at a time to enable play to continue. This combined with automatic fairway and greens watering of more recent years coupled with extensive drainage projects, has produced the lush course we have today. To quote the late C.W.Phillips President, from his address at the A.G.M. of 27th March, 1943 :- “Finally we have a good Club built by ourselves for ourselves and those we are happy to have with us and the old Carnarvon spirit will win through notwithstanding”

 <h3>GOLF CARTS</h3>
 We have 24 fully maintained Golf Carts for your use at $50 per cart for 18 holes. Hand pulled buggies must have wide tyres. Alternatively, these may be hired from the Proshop at $5 each.
 <h3>EQUIPMENT HIRE</h3>
 Club hire is available for both left and right handed players. These can be hired from the Proshop at a cost of $25 per set.
 <h3>DRESS RULES</h3>
 We wish to maintain a dress standard commensurate with the game of golf. For men, tailored shorts and trousers, shirts must have sleeves and collars. White short socks may be worn with a length of at least 75mm above the ankle.
 Items such as football jumpers and shorts, stubbies, brief shorts, athletic shorts and singlets, tracksuits, beach attire, dirty and worn clothes are not appropriate. Any person arriving for golf not properly attired will not be allowed on the course.
 <h3>DRINKS ON THE COURSE</h3>
 A drinks cart is available for hire at a cost of $40 per hour with a minimum of 3 hours. A staff member is included in this charge to drive the cart in accordance with RSA law. All beverages must be purchased from the Club.
 <h3>BOOKINGS</h3>
 Tentative bookings will be held for a period of 10 days only, after which time the date will be released. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is to be paid with each confirmed booking. If the function proceeds, the total deposit will be credited to the customer’s account.
 Menus, beverage arrangements, entertainment, audio-visual requirements, room plans, starting and finishing times must be confirmed in writing 14 days prior to the function.
 Final numbers must be confirmed no later than 7 days prior to the day of the event. These numbers may be increased up to 48 hours prior to the day, but not decreased.

In 2025, we hosted our inaugural Mark Hughes Foundation Beanie for Brain Cancer Charity Golf Day and raised an amazing $15,088 for the Foundation! We are still so thankful to everyone who contributed to the days success. Brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in children, and adults aged under 40 in Australia, yet alarmingly very little is known about brain cancer, its causes or how its treated. 
 That&rsquo;s why Carnarvon Golf Club has decided to help for the second year! Join us for our upcoming Mark Hughes Foundation Beanie for Brain Cancer Charity Golf Day on Friday 19 June 2026, to help us raise much needed funds to help find a cure to brain cancer. We have set an even bigger goal this year - aiming to raise more than $20K for the MHF. Every team that registers will see a portion of their entry fee, made as a donation. Plus we will raise funds through our auctions and raffle.

Become a Member of Carnarvon Golf Club today
The following outlines the process involved in becoming a Member of Carnarvon Golf Club.
Subscription levels are set annually by the Board each year, commencing 1 September. Subscription rates may be adjusted to reflect a pro rata amount, relative to the remaining months of the financial year.
 
1. Completing the Application Form with Application Fee
<ul>
<li>Please ensure that all sections of your application form have been completed in full. An incomplete form may delay your application.</li>
<li>Application forms are available from the reception area of the Club, or may be filled out via our online membership form.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Completed application forms can be submitted to the office in person or electronically.</li>
<li>Please note, a non-refundable application fee of $350 is required to secure a place on the Carnarvon Golf Club wait list. This excludes those applying for Intermediate 1, Junior or Sub Cadet Categories. The application fee is non-transferrable</li>
<li>Payments can be made by cheque or cash if an application is submitted in person. Applications sent by email, must make payment via credit card.</li>
</ul>

2. Approval
<ul>
<li>Once an application form has been received, the form will be posted onto our Members' Notice Board for a period of not less than 7 days.</li>
<li>The application will be considered at the next Board of Directors Meeting. The Board reserves the right to reject any application without providing a reason for their decision. In the event an application is rejected, the application fee will be refunded.</li>
<li>All applicants will be invited to and must attend an interview with the respective Captains.</li>
</ul>

3. Fees
<ul>
<li>All new members must then pay the annual subscription or pro rata amount relative to the remaining months of the current financial year.</li>
<li>Annual subscriptions may be paid in installments, that being monthly* or half yearly*.</li>
<li>*Please be aware that the Club does not offer monthly or half yearly memberships and members must ensure that the annual subscription is always payable in full, regardless of any installment methods that may be allowed from time to time.</li>
</ul>

4. Payment&nbsp;
<ul>
<li>Once approved by the Board of Directors, new members will receive a tax invoice for their membership.</li>
<li>Upon payment of the prescribed fees, you will be issued with; Your Membership Card, Fixtures Book &amp; Rules of Golf Book</li>

Conditions of Entry to Competitions
As of 1 January 2015 all visitors must have played a minimum of 3 of their last 20 games at a Home Club nominated by GOLF Link. &nbsp;Failure to comply will make players ineligible to win all trophies, including ball competition.
Visitors will be welcome to participate in Saturday Competitions* (conditions apply) provided the above criteria has been met regarding trophy allocations.
*Saturday Competitions are Members Invitational Member Invitations will no longer apply to Sunday competitions effective 3 March 2024.

<h4>Weather/Rainfall</h4>
Summer has officially concluded; however, March&rsquo;s conditions closely resembled those of February, with an average maximum temperature of 28&deg;C&mdash;only slightly lower. A total of 85mm of rainfall was recorded, which maintained soil moisture and ensured the dams remain full.
<h4>Greens</h4>
The greens have performed exceptionally well, exhibiting full recovery following the previous month&rsquo;s renovations. With the onset of autumn, vegetative growth has begun to slow, resulting in increased green speeds, which averaged 9&rsquo;7&rdquo; for March. Selective herbicide applications have been recommended along kikuyu perimeters in order to manage encroachment. The greens remain free from any disease or pest activity and are in excellent condition moving into the new season. In light of the recent rainfall, solid tining is scheduled for April to promote oxygenation within the soil profile.
<h4>Tees</h4>
The tees are currently displaying optimal coverage and health as autumn approaches. A decrease in growth and recovery rates is anticipated with the arrival of cooler temperatures. Members are respectfully reminded to maintain the quality of the tees by repairing and filling divots, particularly on the Par 3 tees.
<h4>Fairways</h4>
The fairways are in outstanding condition. It should be noted, however, that Corellas have been observed causing damage to the closely mown turf. Members are encouraged, when possible, to discourage these birds from remaining on the fairways by guiding them towards the rough, thereby helping to preserve turf quality.
<h4>Planned Works</h4>
There are plans to commence sand replacement and repair of selected bunker faces. These tasks are currently postponed pending repairs to the drainage pipe traversing the 4th fairway. It is anticipated that this work will proceed in late April, once vegetative growth slows and staffing levels normalise after the run of short weeks. Initial repairs to the 4th fairway drainage will be temporary until a jet truck can be engaged to conduct a comprehensive clearance of the main line.

Following the January 2026 update, we have received further direct communication from Metropolitan Memorial Parks (MMP). This provides important clarity on the consultation feedback process, and I wanted to share it with you immediately.
&nbsp;
Current Situation as of 20 March 2026
&nbsp;
Yesterday (19 March 2026) MMP CEO Denise Ora advised: &ldquo;MMP has now completed their collation and consolidation of the consultation feedback and have provided this to the Department of Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure.&rdquo;
&nbsp;
She confirmed that their website will be updated with this wording. However, when asked whether this also means the report has been supplied to the Minister, Ms. Ora stated she &ldquo;can&rsquo;t comment that it means it is with the Minister yet&rdquo; and can &ldquo;only comment that we have provided to the department (that is truly all I know). That is the process.&rdquo;
&nbsp;
She also undertook to advise on any additional updates &ldquo;as and when I can.&rdquo;
&nbsp;
No timeline was provided for the public release of the report or for sharing it with key stakeholders (including Carnarvon Golf Club), despite the earlier commitment from MMP Chairman Ken Morrison. This will be the question we continue to ask.
&nbsp;
The proposal itself remains under active review with no final decision made by Minister Kamper or the Government. Our lease remains secure until 2035, the parliamentary petition debate and Cumberland City Council&rsquo;s call for a Portfolio Committee No. 4 inquiry are still live, and community opposition remains strong and coordinated.

<li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 107%;">Contact Minister Kamper, Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully, Minister for Housing Rose Jackson, Premier Chris Minns, and your local MPs.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 107%;">Continue supporting community action groups and our club&rsquo;s advocacy &ndash; don&rsquo;t forget the Pink Army event on Tuesday the 5th of May from 8am outside Parliament.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 107%;">If you have not yet done so, please add your voice to any remaining government channels.</li>

<h2>Weather and Rainfall</h2>
Hooley dooley, what a ride it has been this past month. While the average maximum temperature hovered just over 30 degrees, which might not seem too extreme, the humidity was relentless and made conditions challenging. February brought an impressive 190mm of rain, with a staggering 138mm falling within just over two hours right before the Carnarvon Cup. As a result, by the end of summer our main dams were completely full, and the course profile was thoroughly waterlogged. Here&rsquo;s hoping for a much drier Autumn ahead.
<h2>Greens</h2>
Despite the difficult weather, the greens have thrived and continued to improve. There is now full coverage across all green surfaces, and the plant health is excellent. The combination of warmth, rainfall, and humidity typically creates ideal conditions for pests and disease, but our greens have remained free from both. As anticipated, green speeds dipped slightly but stayed above the 9&rsquo;6&rdquo; benchmark.
Renovations were carried out under tough conditions and went as well as could be expected. The greens were verti-drained using 8mm hollow tines, then lightly sanded, rolled, and had soil amendments added. Subsequent rainfall helped to wash in the last of the sand, and we were able to cut the greens at 4mm just three days later. The cutting height will be gradually reduced to the standard 3-3.5mm over the coming days.
<h2>Tees</h2>
Couch grass has flourished in the current climate, which suits its preference for heat, rain, and humidity. As a result, the tees are in excellent condition, boasting full cover and a thick, healthy sward. New turf areas on holes 3 and 12 were opened for play in early February. Unfortunately, these areas suffered considerable damage from members, who failed to properly care for the turf, rarely filling divots with sand. Because of this, the new turf areas have been withdrawn from regular play. The team has worked hard to prepare and maintain these areas, as they have with all tees, making the situation especially disappointing.
<h2>Fairways</h2>
Like the couch grass, the Kikuyu fairways have responded positively to February&rsquo;s climate. To manage the vigorous growth, mowing frequency was increased to three times a week, alongside regular nutrition and applications of plant growth regulator. However, the drain area on the 4th fairway has become problematic due to a completely blocked stormwater pipe. We are actively working behind the scenes to identify the best solution for this issue.
<h2>Bunkers</h2>
The bunkers held up well until the heavy rainfall at the end of the month, after which they suffered some damage and loss of sand. We will be working through the bunkers to repair damage and replace the washed-out sand. On a positive note, the new bunkers on holes 11 and 9 performed exceptionally well; the recently installed drainage systems proved effective, as barely a grain of sand was out of place.
Members are reminded to avoid walking up the face of these bunkers and to always enter and exit from the lowest point.

<h1>1. Weather and Rainfall<o:p></o:p></h1>Summer arrived with notably warm conditions, recording an
average maximum temperature of 31°C. There were 19 days exceeding 30°C,
including 10 days over 35°C. Rainfall for December was low, totalling just
33mm, resulting in only 92mm since October. The annual rainfall in 2025 was
1,182mm, which is around the average and 132mm more than 2024. Strong winds
persisted throughout December, further intensifying the dry conditions.<o:p></o:p><h1>2. Greens<o:p></o:p></h1>Despite challenging weather, the greens performed
exceptionally well. Poa experienced some stress from sodium and a touch of
Anthracnose during the prolonged heat, but recovery has been strong. Green
speed remained consistent at 10’6”. Plans are in place to verti-drain greens in
early January to enhance air movement, and increased dusting will be
implemented to prevent thatch and improve infiltration. Overall, the health and
presentation of the greens is excellent, positioning us well for the expected
difficult weather in the coming 8–12 weeks.<o:p></o:p><h1>3. Tees<o:p></o:p></h1>Tees are coping well with the warmer weather, though some
dry patches persist due to poor soil, tree roots, and environmental factors.
Renovated tees have fully recovered and will receive organic fertiliser in
early January to strengthen both plant and soil. Turf on the 3rd and 12th tees
has established well despite the heat and is currently being mown at 18mm, with
plans to gradually reduce to the target tee height of 10mm.<o:p></o:p><h1>4. Fairways<o:p></o:p></h1>Fairways are variable, with some areas remaining very dry
and others lush and healthy, primarily based on soil condition and tree root
influence. Irrigation is ongoing where practical, but water supply limitations
are a concern. Outside of Ground Pearl affected zones, fairways are in good
condition. Ground Pearl trials were postponed in December due to high winds,
short weeks, and a busy golf schedule. These trials will resume as soon as

Dear Members and Local Residents,Current Status of the MMP Proposal to Convert the Course into a Cemetery As we enter 2026, the board and I wanted to provide a clear and up-to-date overview of the ongoing situation regarding the Metropolitan Memorial Parks (MMP) proposal to repurpose our Carnarvon Golf Course site as a cemetery. &nbsp;This update draws from recent communications with MMP representatives, government statements, parliamentary discussions, and community feedback. While there have been no major breakthroughs since late 2025, the proposal remains active and our advocacy efforts continue to play a crucial role in shaping the outcome.<o:p style=""></o:p>Background and Proposal Details The NSW State Government, through MMP, has identified Carnarvon Golf Course as a preferred site for a new cemetery to address Sydney's projected shortage of burial spaces. &nbsp;MMP reviewed over 1,000 potential locations against criteria like suitability, accessibility, and environmental factors before selecting our 45-hectare site. &nbsp;This stems from long-term planning to tackle "30 years of inaction" on burial needs, as noted by Minister for Lands and Property Steve Kamper.The proposal involves converting the course into a "memorial park," which MMP promotes as a community space.&nbsp; However, this has faced strong pushback due to the loss of recreational green space in Western Sydney, where urban density is increasing.<o:p style=""></o:p>Importantly, our lease remains secure until 2035, as confirmed directly by Minister Kamper. This provides stability in the short term, but the site's long-term future is uncertain, with no official decision yet on post-2035 use.<o:p style=""></o:p>Community Consultation and Feedback Process The NSW Government, again through the MMP and consultants, commenced a formal community consultation period in late-2025, allowing stakeholders to submit feedback on the proposal. &nbsp;The consultation closed on 19 October 2025, and a formal report to the minister was due by the end of 2025.Feedback has been overwhelmingly negative from local groups. &nbsp;Cumberland City Council unanimously voted to oppose the conversion in February and July 2025, launching a "Save Carnarvon Golf Course" campaign and calling for the site to be removed from consideration. &nbsp;The council highlights the site's value as 45 hectares of open green space - equivalent to over 63 football fields - and its role in community recreation, environmental benefits, and cultural significance to the Darug people and Western Sydney.<o:p style=""></o:p>In communications with Denise Ora from MMP, collated community feedback was to be presented to the government by late 2025. &nbsp;However, details on the public report summarizing this feedback - including key themes, submission categories, and how it influences the decision - remain unclear.<o:p style=""></o:p>Local MP Lynda Voltz has criticized the plan as a "fait accompli," pointing to inconsistencies in government statements and the lack of viable alternatives presented. &nbsp;Parliamentary questions have probed alternatives, social/recreational impacts, and the broader loss of green space, but responses emphasize Carnarvon's suitability as Crown land. &nbsp;A paper petition with over 10,000 signatures, presented by Ms. Voltz, was debated in the NSW Legislative Assembly in front of a full public gallery, on 13 November 2025, highlighting strong community opposition. &nbsp;The Minister provided a response on 18 November 2025, reiterating that no final decision has been made.<o:p style=""></o:p>Key Concerns and Our Advocacy From our ongoing preparations and submissions (including documents submitted and our independent legal advice late in 2025), the main arguments against the proposal include:Environmental and Health Risks The site is prone to flooding, contamination, and geotechnical issues, making it unsuitable for burials. &nbsp;Preserving it as a golf course supports biodiversity, mental health, and physical activity for the community.<o:p style=""></o:p>Economic and Social Impacts Conversion could devalue nearby properties (with reports of 20-30% declines in local home values since the proposal leaked), reduced recreational access in Auburn, Lidcombe and surrounds, and undermine NSW's Transport Oriented Development (TOD) goals for sustainable green spaces. &nbsp;This uncertainty is causing real harm, including mental health crises, disrupted retirement plans, and cultural distress for multicultural communities.&nbsp; Data from Golf Australia (2023-2024) estimates our course contributes significantly to local economy, jobs, and social benefits. &nbsp;For our members, this threatens a generational social and sporting hub - impacting juniors (as young as 9) who rely on it for safe after-school activity and seniors (up to 95) who depend on it for exercise and companionship.<o:p style=""></o:p>Alternatives Available Sites like Varroville (Macarthur Memorial Park) offer 136,000 burial plots without sacrificing active recreational land. &nbsp;Other locations have been raised but dismissed by MMP without full transparency.<o:p style=""></o:p>Process Shortcomings The consultation has been criticized for focusing on a single site with no clear backup plan, limited stakeholder involvement, and potential policy inconsistencies (e.g., Minister Kamper's varying statements on burial space urgency).<o:p style=""></o:p>Our board has pursued multiple strategies, including<ul style="list-style-type: square; line-height: 1.5 !important;"><li style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 1.5 !important;">Political lobbying and GIPA applications for MMP's site suitability studies.</li><li style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 1.5 !important;">Community events, such as open days, rallies and the panel discussion with Denise Ora and Lynda Voltz.</li><li style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 1.5 !important;">Submissions emphasizing long-term improvements to the course to make alternative decisions more challenging.</li></ul>Legal advice highlights options like challenging the proposal through community opposition and evidence of unsuitability, though no formal decision has triggered legal action yet.<o:p style=""></o:p>Current Situation as of January 2026<ul style="list-style-type: square; line-height: 1.5 !important;">The MMPs Community Consultation Report was due by year end (2025) to the Minister.&nbsp;&nbsp;We have had differing reports but believe at this stage it has not yet been submitted.&nbsp;</li><li style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 1.5 !important;">Timing for the formal report’s submission, at latest update was sometime in the next six to eight weeks.</li></ul><li style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 1.5 !important;">Following the successful presentation and parliamentary debate of the petition in November 2025, Cumberland City Council resolved on 19 November 2025 to request a parliamentary inquiry by the NSW Legislative Council Portfolio Committee No. 4 into the MMP proposal.</li><ul style="list-style-type: square; line-height: 1.5 !important;"><li style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 1.5 !important;">This inquiry, if approved, would examine site selection, community consultation, governance, environmental compliance, financial risks, and community impacts.</li><li style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 1.5 !important;">While not yet confirmed, we are looking forward to this as a key next step in scrutinizing the plan and advocating for alternatives.</li><li style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 1.5 !important;">Community campaigns, including Hands Off Carnarvon, are actively urging MPs to support the inquiry in 2026.</li></ul><li style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; line-height: 1.5 !important;">Media coverage continues to highlight backlash, including concerns over property values and the "turf war" for green space.&nbsp;As of the latest parliamentary records (October 2025), Carnarvon remains the focus, but alternatives are "in the pipeline."</li><ul style="list-style-type: square; <h1>Weather
and Rainfall<o:p></o:p></h1>It was not long ago that we were all hoping for the rain to
stop, but now the situation has reversed, and we are again wishing for rain.
The course received 45mm of rainfall throughout November, following just 15mm
in October. This amounts to 60mm over a 61-day period. The weather conditions
have been notably challenging, with eleven days exceeding 30 degrees and an
average maximum temperature above 28 degrees. Additionally, 28 days were marked
by persistent wind and elevated UV and evapotranspiration rates, resulting in
extremely dry conditions across the golf course.<o:p></o:p><h1>Greens<o:p></o:p></h1>The greens have performed exceptionally well and are
currently in excellent condition as we approach what is anticipated to be a
difficult summer. In November, scheduled renovations were completed using 10mm
hollow tines, followed by the application of soil amendments and sand. A
follow-up dusting was conducted a week later to further smooth the surface.
Green speed has remained consistent, averaging 10 feet 8 inches throughout
November. Although a slight decrease in speed is expected over summer, it is
unlikely to fall below 10 feet.<o:p></o:p>Please note that during the warmer months, afternoon watering
cycles may be run on the greens between 5:45pm and 6:15pm to help keep the leaf
cool during the afternoon heat. It is also important to remember that summer
places the greatest pressure on greens due to increased pest and disease
activity. Unrepaired pitch marks create opportunities for these issues to
develop, so all players are encouraged to repair pitch marks on the greens. If
you are unable to locate your own, please repair another one.<o:p></o:p><h1>Tees<o:p></o:p></h1>The tees are responding well to the heat and increased
irrigation, showing good recovery following November’s scheduled renovations.
These works included verti-draining with 19mm hollow tines, rubbing back the
cores, and applying the appropriate fertilisers. The Par 3 tees are continuing
to improve, albeit slowly. <o:p></o:p>Players are
reminded to fill divots on tees to help maintain the best possible playing
surface.<o:p></o:p><h1>Fairways<o:p></o:p></h1>The fairways were looking excellent until the onset of dry
heat. Despite irrigating them three times a week, this has not been sufficient,
and while most areas are holding up, turf quality has declined where soil is
poor or tree roots are intrusive. Renovation plans for the fairways will be
postponed until conditions improve. On a positive note, progress is being made
in managing Ground Pearl; there appears to be a reduction in both numbers and
damage in the trial areas, though it is still early days.<o:p></o:p><h1>Other
Works<o:p></o:p></h1>Tree work was completed around the 12th green and in front
of the 13th tee, prompted by a large Tallow-wood tree falling in the wind.
While the arborist was onsite, additional dead and hazardous trees and limbs
